Context – Offshore fish farming (open net) is in the process of being banned in Canada while the food costs have undergone high levels of inflation.
Problem Statement – Climate change is already beginning to impact production and the need for climate resilient, on-site food production is increasingly relevant. The Canadian growing season is relatively short and as such the need for non-seasonal, year-round food production solutions is steadily growing. Remote First Nation/indigenous and other communities are often challenged with poor agricultural land, very high seasonal food costs and limited availability.
Technical Parameters/Response Criteria – Environmentally and seasonally independent food production.
